Tays Central Hospital
The majority of the patients of the Tampere University Hospital are treated at Tays Central Hospital. We offer expertise in nearly all medical specialties. Tays is responsible for the demanding special care of over a million Finns.
In addition to Pirkanmaa residents, we provide treatment to patients in the areas of Tavastia Proper, Päijänne Tavastia and Southern Ostrobothnia. In addition, a large number of patients in the area of the Vaasa Hospital District have chosen us as their university hospital.
A physician's referral is required in order to receive specialist treatment and tests at our hospital. Nevertheless, about half of all patients at Tays Central Hospital arrive to the hospital directly from emergency services without a referral.
In addition to the Central Hospital, the following units are also part of Tays:
- Tays Hatanpää hospital in Tampere
- Tays Valkeakoski hospital in Valkeakoski
- Tays Sastamala hospital in Vammala
- The psychiatric hospital of Pitkäniemi at Nokia
- The disabled care units of Pitkäniemi at Nokia
In addition, the Tays Heart Centre, the Hospital for Joint Replacement Coxa, Fimlab Laboratories, the Imaging Centre and Pharmacy as well as the patient hotel Norlandia Care Tampere operate in the area of the Central Hospital. Patients choosing Coxa or the Heart Centre are also referred to Tays or the Pirkanmaa Hospital District.
The hospital functions as a teaching hospital in close collaboration with the School of Medicine at the University of Tampere and the Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
When you are using the option to choose your specialty unit at Tays, you may ask for more information from our service help desk.
Tays is being renewed
We are renewing our operations in order to guarantee health care services that meet current demands for the growing population of our area. In order to meet the demands, new facilities need to be built and some sections of old buildings need to be renovated.
Through the necessary renovations and reconstruction, we want to meet the growing need for services, improve patient safety, make it easier for patients to use the services, create a functional working environment and simplify the traffic of equipment and people in the area. The new facilities will increase the privacy and comfort of patients, and family members will be able to spend more time at the hospital.
