Skin diseases
Dermatology
At Tays, we study and treat patients with skin-related symptoms or diseases. We perform laboratory and allergy tests and take biopsies to find the reason for the symptoms.
If the diagnosis of a skin disease or skin changes is unclear or its treatment is not possible in basic health care, the patient belongs in our care. Patients requiring systemic medication due to a skin disease, wounds or skin tumours are often monitored by our hospital.
Diseases treated at Tays include the following, for example:
- rashes
- skin tumours
- chronic wounds
- genetic skin diseases
- skin allergies
- occupational rashes.
Tests and treatment at Tays
The majority of our patients are treated at the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic where we perform the necessary tests and provide local treatment and light therapy for dermatological patients. In addition to surgery, skin tumours are treated with freezing, laser and photodynamic treatments.
In the ward, we study and treat especially wound patients whose treatment requires knowledge from many different specialties, and often surgical procedures as well. Sometimes patients suffering from severe rash, such as extensive psoriasis or epidermolysis bullosa, or from sudden allergic reactions of the skin require treatment in the ward.
The treatment of dermatological has been allocated to the Dermatology outpatient clinic and the Allergy Centre. Light therapy is given at Tays Sastamala Hospital.
Special expertise at Tays
Our areas of special expertise include diagnostics and treatment of severe skin wounds, treatment of skin cancers, diagnostics and genetic counselling of hereditary dermatological diseases, as well as dermatitis herpetiformis. We have extensive clinical and scientific research experience in these areas.
